LAHORE:

The Lahore High Court on Monday issued a notice to the health secretary regarding a petition seeking contempt proceedings against authorities for not regularising the services of nurses in light of an earlier judicial order.

Dozens of nurses working in public sector hospitals approached the LHC against non-implementation of the court’s earlier order for their regularisation.

They said the health authorities had committed contempt of court by not implementing their order. They asked the court to initiate contempt proceedings against the health secretary, among other respondents.  Justice Khalid Mahmood Khan expressed his displeasure and said it appeared that the government wanted nurses to protest in the streets for their rights.

The judge adjourned the hearing till April 8 (today) and directed the health secretary to explain his position.
