Medical facility: Spine Centre inaugurated

A spine centre at Gurkhi Trust and Teaching Hospital was inaugurated on Wednesday.

Professor Amir Aziz, head of the centre, said Rs 250 million were spent on its construction.

He said the centre had an MRI machine, five operation theatres, an ICU and a physiotherapy rehabilitation centre.

He said Ghurki Trust was known for its cutting edge orthopaedic work.

“The orthopaedic surgery department is doing all kind of surgeries including joint replacements, disc excision and stabilisation of spine,” he said.

He said 70 per cent of the patients at hospital were at the orthopaedic department.

He said the department had produced 23 FCPS orthopaedic surgeons in the last 8 years.

He said 12 orthopaedic surgeons from Pakistan and abroad were also working under a spine fellowship training. He said hospital teams had visited Kosovo and Ghaza for medical aid. He said doctors from the hospital had also participated in relief efforts of 2005 earthquake.
