FAISALABAD: The Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on Thursday to replace some of the agency’s old machinery.
Under the MoU, an in-line booster pumping station and a terminal reservoir pumping station will be replaced at a cost of Rs1.769 billion. District Coordination Officer Noorul Amin Mengal and a JICA representative signed the agreement. Mengal said the replacement would reduce the electricity cost.
Mengal thanked the JICA for its help in improving water supply in the city.
WASA Managing Director Syed Zahid Aziz said the machinery, installed in 1992, had outlived its design life.
“It is less inefficient now and consumes a lot of electricity.”
He said the machinery at Chiniot would be replaced by 2015.
