FAISALABAD:

An MSc student of the Faisalabad University of Agriculture was injured on Thursday when an armed clash broke out between two groups.

Rafiq Asghar, a student, told newsmen that on Thursday morning, two groups of students of the botany and the zoology departments exchanged hot words over a girl.

“Ali and Kashif both wanted to be friends with the girl, who is an MSc student,” he said. He said the two groups had had several clashes over the girl.

He said on Thursday, they quarrelled and some of their friends then exchanged indiscriminate firing.

22-year-old Ali received bullet injuries and was taken to divisional headquarters (DHQ) hospital for treatment.

Asghar said the matter had been reported to the university administration but they had not taken any action.

A university spokesman latter issued a statement, saying the vice chancellor had taken serious notice of the clash and an inquiry committee had been formed to probe into the matter and submit a report.

DHQ Hospital Chief Medical Officer Zafar Abbas said Ali’s condition was stable.

There are over 6,000 students at the University of Agriculture, including 1,000 girls.
