LAHORE:

“We cannot innovate without research. Pakistan has not been able to give enough attention to research and investment in innovation,” Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) Chairman Eng Abdul Qadir Shah said on Saturday.

He was addressing the first International Young Engineers’ Convention at the University of Engineering Technology (UET).

He said scientific research led to discoveries and a greater understanding of the world.

He said he was glad such conventions were being held in Pakistan as they provided opportunities to engineers to share knowledge and promoted competitiveness. He said the conference would help establish effective networking and collaboration among young engineers and institutions from member countries. Prof Abang Abdullah briefed the participants on some of the areas that needed immediate attention. He also explained how research in certain sectors could improve their performance.

Some 300 research papers were presented in the convention.  The PEC chairman also presented shields to the convention participants.
