LAHORE: The suspected rape victim who had set herself on fire in Muzaffargarh was not sexually assaulted, claimed a police report which was presented before the Supreme Court on Monday, Express News reported.
A three-member bench – headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Tassaduq Hussain Jillani – heard the case today.
The girl had self-immolated on March 13 in front of the Mir Hazar Khan police station after hearing that the suspects who had allegedly raped her were granted bail. With 70% of her body burnt, the girl succumbed to her injuries on March 14 in the hospital.
The police report stated that the whole incident was a ploy to trap the suspects.
Dismissing the report instantly, the chief justice remarked during the hearing today that if the victim was not assaulted then why would she set herself on fire.
Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed also expressed disappointment over the report, mocking that the police could also claim that the victim herself did not exist and the incident had not taken place in its entirety.
The court also called the victim’s mother to the rostrum and Chief Justice Jillani assured her that justice will prevail.
