LAHORE:

Adviser to Chief Minister on Health Khawaja Salman Rafique on Monday directed the officials to expedite registration of blood banks to ensure safe transfusions. He said no blood bank would be allowed to operate without proper registration.

He said substandard blood banks would not be tolerated. Rafique said laws were being enacted to monitor blood banks in the Punjab.

He was presiding over a meeting of the Punjab Blood Transfusion Authority (PBTA).

The meeting decided that blood banks would be asked to register with the PBTA advertisements.

The meeting decided that any blood bank that did not contact relevant authorities within three months of the advertisement would be shut down.

The meeting recommended strict action against substandard and fake blood banks in the province.

Rafique said special arrangements would be made for World Blood Donors’ Day on June 24.
