The Lahore High Court on Tuesday reserved the verdict on a petition challenging PML-N MNA Malik Riaz’s educational qualification.
A citizen, Yousaf, filed the petition and alleged that Riaz won the National Assembly election from NA-118-I, Lahore, on the basis of a fake degree ostensibly obtained from Azad Jammu Kashmir University.
He said that on the instructions of the Higher Education Commission, the university had conducted an inquiry and declared his degree fake.
The petitioner invoked the provisions of Article 63 of the Constitution and requested that the court disqualify Riaz for the assembly seat.
The counsel for Malik Riaz requested that the petition be dismissed as it was based on ulterior motives.
After hearing the counsel, Justice Muhammad Khalid Mehmood reserved his judgment.
