A man shot his former wife and her sister dead near a Jaranwala court’s main gate on Wednesday.
Police said Najma Bibi had married Najabat, a resident of Jaranwala, a few years ago. Since then she had divorced him and filed a petition for the custody of her children.
Police said that Najma and her sister Mehran Bibi had to appear in court on Wednesday. When the women were returning from the hearing, Najabat opened fire from outside the main gate. Both women received serious injuries and died. Najabat surrendered to the police. Rafiq Anwar, a witness, said that when Najabat opened fire, police and several court security personnel were present. He said Najabat had followed the women when they left the courtroom and had an argument with them before he then pulled out a gun. The women screamed for help, but no security guard came forward, Anwar said. Police took the bodies to the mortuary for post-mortem.
