The Beaconhouse National University will organise a number of fundraising activities, over four days, to celebrate the National Education Fundraising Week.
The week is being celebrated at the directive of the Higher Education Commission (HEC). According to the university’s website, “The focus of this campaign is to mobilise BNU students and alumni to expand higher education opportunities in Pakistan for students from low-income families aspiring to join BNU colleges and universities throughout Pakistan.” The proceeds will go to the BNU Student Endowment Fund. The website also says that each student is expected to raise Rs5,000. Any students who raises more than Rs20,000 will be given a certificate of appreciation.
On March 1, the university’s city campus organised a Student Fund Day. The second leg of the fundraising week will start from Thursday (today) and continue till March 10.
The event is called the BNU ‘Bestival’ and will be held at the university’s Tarogil campus. About 500 students from various educational institutes across Pakistan are expected to participate in the events that include as many as 24 competitions. Activities range from stage dramas to short films, stand up comedy to creative writing and fashion design to sports.
The institutions participating this year include the Lahore Grammar School, the Beaconhouse School System, the City School, FAST-NU, the National College of Arts, Forman Christian College University, University of Lahore, University of the Punjab, University of South Asia, University of Central Punjab, University of Management and Technology and COMSATS.
