MULTAN: Government of Punjab has constituted a special committee to probe the murder of human rights activist and lawyer Rashid Rehman.
Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif will personally monitor the investigation while IG Punjab Khan Baig has appointed DIG Ali Amir Malik as head of the investigation team.
Malik had personally visited Multan and spoke to all the police officials involved in investigations. He is also investigating the alleged negligence of police in reviewing threats to Rehman.
DIG Malik also met the relatives and colleagues of Rehman and all those who had been receiving death threats after the murder Rehman for supporting him. The investigations team also recorded their statements.
The investigation team is looking into the three people Rehman had identified for threatening him.
The investigation team is expected to submit its report to IG Punjab, who will then in turn forward it to Shahbaz Sharif.
On May 7, two armed men shot Rehman dead in his law chamber in Multan. His colleague Nadeem Pervaiz and a client Muhammad Afzal were seriously injured in the attack.
