LAHORE:

Differences among various sections must be used to resolve conflicts as democratic powers flourish despite having ideological variations, said noted scholar Fatah Muhammad Malik.

He was addressing a seminar on Contemporary Ideological Conflicts in Islamic World, organised by Department of Philosophy at the University of the Punjab.

Department of Philosophy chairperson Shagufta Bukhari, Khwaja Muhammad Zakria, Syed Akram Shah, Rafiuddin Hashmi, faculty members and students attended.

“According to Allama Muhammad Iqbal, the political system of an Islamic country is democracy and there is no space for monarchy in Islam,” Fatah said.

He said in today’s Arab world, there were conflicts among monarchist, democrat and autocrat political sections. Zakria said Allama Iqbal was aware of the ideological differences among Muslim rulers. He said terming difference of opinion treason and sectarianism were major hurdles to the Islamic world’s development.

Bukhari said Iqbal’s ideology was a guide for the past, present and the future.
