Unidentified gunmen fired in the air in front of actress Meera’s house in Defence early in the morning on Saturday before they fled from the scene. Cantonment SP Sarfraz Virk said the incident occurred at 5 am.
Meera’s mother, Shafqat Zahra Bukhari, told The Express Tribune a guard on security duty was performing ablutions for the morning prayers could not retaliate.
Bukhari said she informed the police at around 8am. Virk said an investigation had been started on a complaint filed by the actress’s brother, Muhammad Ahsan.
He said nobody was injured in the assault, but three shells were found at the gate. He also said that two bullets had gone through the gate and hit a parked car. Police said that from the shells they found it could be concluded that at least eight bullets had been fired.
Meera’s mother said they had not nominated a suspect in the complaint. She said they had no known enemies.
Bukhari said Meera was abroad. She said Meera had been in Dubai for three months.
In 2009, after a similar incident, Meera had filed a complaint alleging that the son of a businessman from Faisalabad, Atiqur Rehman, was involved.
