FAISALABAD:

“Adoption of a code of conduct is imperative to protect press freedom,” said Pakistan Press Council Chairman Justice (r) Raja Shafqat Khan Abbasi on Monday.

He was talking to local journalists.

He said all media organisations should agree to a code of ethics. “Such a code should serve as a guiding principle for good reporting practices,” Abbasi said.

He said that journalist had rendered great sacrifices for the freedom of information and expression but were still deprived of their basic rights and entitlements.

He said that the Supreme Court of Pakistan had issued an order in its verdict to implement the minimum wage board award.

Abbasi said that it was unfortunate that the wage board award had still not been enforced.

He urged journalists from all media houses to sit together and discuss their concerns to find solutions to shared problems.

He said journalists were duty-bound to highlight problems faced by the masses.
