The Punjab Highway Police on Sunday claimed to have arrested two robbers and recovered 400g of unhygienic meat and 429g heroin in separate incidents.
PHP officials said that they received information from two citizens Munawar Hussain and Muhammad Riaz that unidentified men had tried to intercept them with the intent to rob them. They said that a PHP team tried to stop two suspicious-looking men on a motorcycle but they tried to flee. The PHP team chased them and the men shot at the team. The PHP team shot back at them and the culprits left their motorcycle on the road and ran into the fields.
PHP officials said that they chased the men in the fields and managed to arrest Shahbaz and Arshad and recovered a 0.30 bore pistol, eight bullets, a bullet magazine, two mobile phones and two cheques valued at Rs200,000. They also found two Saudi riyals and Iranian currency on them. The PHP also claimed to have recovered 400kg unhygienic meat from Arif, Aslam, Mulazim Hussain, Akram, Ghulam Hussain, Nasir Abbas, Arshad and Zahid. They recovered 429g heroin from Nisar Ahmed, Kashif, Shahid Zaman and Qamar Zaman. A 0.30 bore pistol and 53 bullets were recovered from Mehmood and Nadir Ali. The PHP also recovered a bottle of liquor from Arshad, Khizar Hayat and, Abbas Ali.
