BAHAWALPUR:

Angry residents, who were without power for 48-hours, staged a protest demonstration and blocked a road in Bahawalpur on Sunday.

Residents of Satellite Town protested against Water and Power Development Authority for not replacing or fixing a transformer that had blown up on Friday.

Residents of the area said that the 200-KV transformer broke down on Friday leaving 344 homes without power.

“Water has run out and our children are faint due to the heat,” they said. They claimed that two transformers had been installed in the area, but one was taken elsewhere. “One transformer could not deal with the supply load and broke down,” they said. They urged Water and Power Development Authority staff to install a 400-KV transformer in the area.

The protesters dispersed after WAPDA officials reached the scene and assured them that the problem would be solved soon.
