LAHORE: Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif has said that the people responsible for “barbaric” Joseph Colony incident dented the image of Pakistan and that they will be punished severely, Express News reported on Monday.

Addressing a meeting called to discuss the Joseph Colony incident, he said that those responsible for burning the houses of Christian community, are a disgrace for Pakistan and Islam.

Shahbaz further announced that damaged homes and shops will be repaired within four days.

CM Punjab also requested religious clerics to preach brotherhood and peace during their weekly sermon.

Shahbaz on March 10 had announced Rs0.5 million in compensation for those affected in the mob attack.

More than 3,000 protesters burnt down 150-plus houses in Lahore’s Joseph Colony on Saturday after allegations that a Christian sanitary worker, Sawan Masih, had made derogatory remarks about the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) three days earlier.
