The Pakistan Young Pharmacist Association on Saturday appealed to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and the National Health Services secretary to reduce the prices of medicines to benefit poor patients.
According to a statement, PYPA president Dr Nabila Latif said the recent increase in medicine prices was a conspiracy against the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz government.
“The illegal and unjust use of public money by the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) must be stopped with immediate effect,” she said.
She said the DRAP legal director did not fulfil the requirements of his post because he never worked as a lawyer. “The appointment of deputy drugs controller legal is also against the law, as he is not even a law graduate,” Dr Nabila said.
She said that the Central Drug Registration Board chairman had only a graduate degree. “Since 1976, only the senior most doctors of Pakistan were appointed chairman of the board,” Dr Nabila said.
“Hundreds of people died in Punjab Institute of Cardiology Lahore while a number of people died in the Tyno case. All this happened due to the negligence of the current chairman,” Dr Nabila said.
