Dozens of gypsies staged a protest demonstration in Shorkot on Monday after a girl was allegedly raped by four men.
Police said the 18-year-old gypsy girl had gone to a wedding ceremony in Hussainabad to beg. They said four men abducted and raped her.
Parents and relatives of the girl protested against the police for not taking action against the suspects.
Naseer Baggi, one of the protesters, told reporters,“One of our girls went to a wedding in Hussainabad.
When the girl asked the guests for charity, four men overpowered her and carried her to a deserted house, where they raped her. He said the men also beat her up on putting up resistance.
“We told police about the rape, but they did not do anything,” he said.
The protesters chanted slogans against the police and demanded immediate arrest of the rapists.
Some police officials met the protesters and assured them that action would be taken against the nominated accused. The protesters then dispersed.
The Shorkot SHO said police were waiting for the medical report of the girl, after which further action would be taken.
