LAHORE: Former National Assembly Member Attiya Inayatullah urged women lawmakers on Sunday to act together and carve a niche for themselves in politics.
She was addressing them during a 3-day training workshop organised by Search for Common Ground (SFCG). National Assembly Joint Secretary Shamoon Hashmi, actress Simi Raheel and Inayatullah conducted the workshop. 12 members of the provincial assembly and councillors affiliated with various political parties attended the workshop.
Inayatullah advised them to ‘think globally and act locally.” Raheel talked about the importance of media management. She said leadership was inextricably linked to effective communication. Raheel said women leaders had to understand media and communications to become successful politicians. She said they had the ability, strength and wisdom needed to nurture nations.
Hashmi praised the contributions of women politicians and called them ‘agents of change.’ He said women had initiated 62 per cent of legislation in the last National Assembly. Hashmi appreciated the fact that several women had been elected to the parliament for the third time. He said this could provide them with an opportunity to implement social reform in the country.
SFCG-Pakistan Project Manger Tabinda Zuberi said the organisation had been engaging women politicians since three years. She said it had organised several workshops, networking summits and leadership forums for them.
The workshop concluded on Sunday.
