LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif announced on Monday that starting from October 1, they will provide each flood victim Rs25,000 as compensation in the first phase of providing relief.
According to the Punjab government release, the Punjab chief minister has announced a step-by-step programme for providing compensation to those affected by floods will officially begin in October.
“In the first phase, a sum of Rs 25,000 will be given to flood affectees for the damage suffered by their houses,” he said. In the next phase, flood affectees will be provided compensation based on a survey to determine the loss to houses and crops.
“I will personally monitor the process of rehabilitation and disbursement of aid to flood victims,” added Shahbaz.
He warned that profiteers fleecing flood affectees will be arrested.
According to figures released by the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) on Monday, as many as 360 people have died while over 2.5 million have been affected by the floods.
Punjab has borne the brunt of the floods, with 283 people losing their lives due to the raging waters in the province.
According to NDMA, 42,827 houses were damaged in Punjab while 2,413,797 acres of crops were damaged.
