The Excise and Taxation Department (ETD) on Monday issued final notices to vehicle owners who have not paid the ‘lifetime token tax’ for their vehicles. Failure to pay the tax by March 31 could result in vehicle registrations being cancelled, ETD regional director Sarfraz Ahmad Wafa said on Monday.
Wafa said the department had announced in July 2012 that all 1000cc vehicle owners are required to pay the lifetime token tax. He said thousands of vehicles including 985 owned by government departments and banks were running without the payments.
He said, “Registrations of all vehicles without lifetime tokens by March 31 would be cancelled without any discrimination.”

Excise and Taxation Director Jan Mohammad Siraj claimed on Monday that the department’s performance [revenue collection] excelled over that of other districts.
He said Rs234.8 million had been recovered in the first quarter of 2013 compared to only Rs46.3 million in the first quarter of 2012.
He said Rs1,634,000 motor registration fee had been collected in the first quarter of 2013 compared to Rs556,543 last year.
