GUJRANWALA:

DCO Syed Najam Ahmed Shah has ordered government officers to take action against flour hoarders.

Chairing a meeting he said flour should be available to citizens at the rates set by the government. He said complaints had been received from Nowshera Saansi, Mian Saansi, Chheechhar Wali and People’s Colony that shopkeepers were selling flour at inflated rates. He said many shopkeepers were not selling flour and those selling the commodity were overcharging the customers.

He directed the district officers to ensure the flour was sold at prescribed rates. He said the shopkeepers fleecing the public should be challaned and sent to jail. He said there was no shortage of flour in the city. He said hoarders were creating an artificial shortage.

Separately, Assistant Commissioner (City) Syed Salahuddin told The Express Tribune that he had formed teams including tehsildars to track the elements behind the artificial shortage of flour.
