A robber was killed in a shootout with the police late on Thursday night. A Bahdadul Jadeed police spokesman said two armed robbers snatched a motorbike and a cell phone on from Khadim Hussain near Johar Town mosque.
He said on being informed, Station House Officer (SHO) Aamir Ghauri took a police team and set up a picket at Wakeel Wali Chaki.
He said Satellite Town Sub Inspector Muhammad Iqbal radioed the team that the men had been seen fleeing towards Tibba Badar Sher.
Ghauri’s team then chased the robbers to Ahle Bait mosque in Chak 9BC where the men shot at them.
They then hid in cotton fields near the mosque, leaving the motorbike behind.
Police surrounded the field and told them to surrender.
The spokesman said the robbers shot at police for 15 to 20 minutes. He said one of them was killed in retaliatory fire. He said police had been unable to identify him. He said his partner fled in the cover of darkness.
The body of the robber was taken to Bahawalpur Victoria Hospital for post-mortem examination.
