LAHORE:

The owner of a transport company was told to pay Rs4.7 million to passengers it had overcharged on Eidul Azha days.  National Highways and Motorway Police Inspector General Zulfiqar Ahmad Cheema issued directions to the transport company’s owner.

He said fleecing passengers would not be tolerated and every penny overcharged would have to be returned.

He said the Motorway Police had initiated a crackdown against public service vehicles plying between Lahore, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Jhelum, Rawalpindi, Hassan Abdal, Attock, Peshawar, Sargodha, Hafizabad, Faisalabad, Sheikhupura, Chakwal, Multan, Okara, Khanewal, Bahawalpur and Rahim Yar Khan. He said they had taken note of complaints of overcharging and had taken all possible steps to reimburse passengers. In some cases vehicle owners were heavily fined and police initiated legal action against them. Several passengers who received reimbursement appreciated the NH&MP’s initiative.
