LAHORE:

The World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) celebrated Pakistan Day and the global Earth Hour campaign for conservation of natural resources and supporting use of renewable energy resources on Saturday at Qarshi University.

WWF’s celebrity ambassadors spread the message of conservation among people. Actor Adnan Siddiqui said every individual needs to take on the responsibility of saving the planet.

Qarshi Industries CEO Iqbal Qarshi said his organisation had adopted the rules of ‘green economy’ and had turned offices into environment friendly zones. If businesses commit to energy conservation they could double their output and cut costs.

WWF CEO Ali Hassan Habib said Earth Hour had become a motivation for youth to recognise their contribution to the green movement. “We have students who translate the message of Earth Hour into their daily lives by not wasting electricity and water, by not littering, by planting trees and refusing to use plastic bags.” Small critical choices like these can mean a world of difference for the environment, he said.

WWF has been observing the Earth Hour for four years in Pakistan.
