DERA GHAZI KHAN:

More than 100 people protested in front of the regional police office on Wednesday against the police’s alleged inaction following complaints of recruitment fraud.

Police had arrested Advocate Mirza Idrees, accused of depriving a number of citizens of hundreds of thousands of rupees, a few days ago.

The protesters said that Idrees had taken money from people in Muzaffargarh, Dera Ghazi Khan, Layyah and Rajanpur to arrange their interviews for the job as coordinators at a non government organisation.

They said he had taken Rs3,000 each from the candidates “in the name of interview”, Rs2,000 “for helping them put their documents in order” and Rs1,000 for “setting up their bank accounts”. They said he also embezzled hundreds of thousands of rupees from many women by promising to “get them recruited as teachers’ monitors and supervisors. The protesters said that several people had filed complaints against him, but inquiry had not begun yet.
