The Lahore Waste Management Company conducted a special cleanliness drive at the city’s churches and neighbourhoods with Christian populations on Saturday, ahead of Easter.
Some 150 churches in the city will be cleaned before and after Easter celebrations, said the LWMC in a press release. After mechanical sweeping and washing, the roads edges and side lanes will be marked with limestone to improve the city’s look.
Turkish contractors Albayrak and Ozpak deployed their latest sweeping and washing machinery on Saturday and staff were directed to empty garbage containers near Christian colonies and churches, said the press release.
A large proportion of LWMC workers are Christian. The company has handed out ration bags and cash prizes to workers.
LWMC officials will also attend church services on Easter Sunday (today) in various areas.
LWMC Chairman Ahmed Rafay Alam greeted the community in an Easter message. “We are trying to facilitate our Christian workers and I extend warm greetings to them on the Easter,” he said.
“The dream of a clean Lahore could not have materialised without your help. The LWMC is committed to taking more initiatives for Christian workers’ welfare,” said LWMC Managing Director Waseem Ajmal Chaudhry in his Easter message.
