Police on Saturday claimed to have foiled an escape plan hatched by prisoners brought to the sessions court.
According to police, a central jail prisoner, Naveed, on Saturday morning began shouting that he had been ‘tortured’ and was not being allowed a medical examination.
In the meantime, police said, some visitors attacked the guards and tried to free Naveed. When he was shifted to another part of the court lock-up, Naveed started throwing chairs at the guards.
Some other inmates also tried to cash in on the chaos and picked a lock in a bid to escape.
In the end three men who said they had come to see Naveed were arrested.
The lock-up incharge, Muhammad Kausar, later said, “We foiled an escape plan.”
He said from an initial investigation it appeared that Naveed had no injuries and had lied about torture.
