The Lahore High Court on Wednesday took notice of a newspaper article, according to which the Toba Tek Singh police have not registered a rape case against suspects identified by the victim.
A statement issued by the LHC said that the Toba Tek Singh district and sessions judge (D&SJ) had been directed to look into the matter and submit a detailed report about the steps taken by the police, along with his own comments, to the court.
According to the article, four men (at least one of whom the woman says she knows) barged into the drum beater’s house more than three weeks ago. They tied up her husband and took away cash, gold jewellery and three cell phones besides raping her. The woman was quoted as saying that three weeks after the incident; the Gojra Saddar Police had not registered a rape case against the men because they were ‘influential’. The police have registered a robbery case against unidentified persons, the article said.
