A-Division police in Jamaldinwali near Rahim Yar Khan registered a case against a man on Wednesday for allegedly strangling his 23-year-old niece, who the police said, had eloped two months ago.
The man’s three accomplices- identified by the complainant as Khairat Hussain, Fida Hussain and Nazeer Hussain- were also nominated in the case.
The woman’s mother, the complainant in the case, told police that her daughter had eloped with a man from the neighbourhood in February. She said her (complainant’s) brother Ghulam Mustafa had called a panchayat, which directed the man’s family to bring the girl back. They assured the man’s family that the woman and the man would not be harmed.
She said that her daughter was brought back on April 17. She said Mustafa had been telling her she had “brought shame to the family”.
She said on Tuesday night, while Mustafa was already at their home, three men came to her house. She said Mustafa dragged the girl into a room with help from two of the men. She said their third accomplice held her (the mother) back. She said they used a rope to strangle the girl. She said she kept begging them to leave her, but they did not listen to her. She said she informed the police as soon as they left. The body was then sent for a post-mortem examination. Police said the four men nominated in the FIR were at large. They said they were looking for them.
Sister killed for ‘honour’
Elsewhere, a 25-year-old was killed allegedly by her brother in Sadiqabad over family ‘honour’.
Saddar police said that a Khai village resident, Maqsooda Bibi’s body was found at her home by a neighbour, who had gone to visit her.
They said she had been hit several times with a butcher’s cleaver, which was found lying next to the body.
Some neighbours told police that her brother Ghulam Fareed had suspected her of having an affair. They had quarrelled over this, they said.
The body has been sent for a post-mortem examination.
A case has been registered against Fareed, who, the police said was missing.
