Cases registered against nine cops

MIANWALI: 

Police have registered a case against nine policemen, including a station house officer, for allegedly assaulting a citizen and stealing cash from his home.

The orders to this effect were issued by an additional sessions judge on Friday. Wan Bhachchran police were ordered to register the cases on the complaint of Muhammad Afzal, a resident of Pakka Ghanjeeranwala. Afzal had said that SHO Shafiqullah Khan and eight other policemen broke into his house in the middle of the night three days ago. When he and his brother Muhammad Ikhlaas told them to leave, he said, they beat them up. The police men, the complainant said, broke the door of his nephew’s room and rummaged through the cupboards. He said they also beat up his nephew Faizul Hasan when he stopped them. He said they broke the lock on a chest and took away Rs21,500.

Disciplinary action against 20 others 

In Gujranwala, one year service of 13 policemen each was cancelled over negligence.

A sub inspector was demoted as an assistant sub inspector, while six others were issued show cause notices. Saddar Superintendent of Police Syed Junaid Arshad said that one year service of seven sub inspectors, five assistant sub inspectors and a constable was cancelled over failure to arrest suspects in several cases. Jandiala police post in charge SI Aashiq Virk has been demoted as an ASI for failure to arrest a wanted man. Six other policemen were issued show cause notices for absence from duty.
