LAHORE:

A consumer court issued a notice on Monday to a shopkeeper ordering him to appear in court on May 22 in a petition accusing him of selling defective batteries. The petitioner has sought Rs400,000 as damages.

Petitioner Shamsher Umar said he had bought eight batteries from Pakistan Batteries Centre on August 7, 2012, for Rs108,800. He said its owner, Zeeshan Islam, had told him that the batteries had a six-month warrantee. He said, the batteries stopped working within a few days causing him “mental agony”.

He said he had contacted Islam several times but he had ignored him. He said Islam refused to replace the batteries or return the money. The petitioner requested the court to direct the respondent to return him the money and pay him Rs300,000
