As many as 70 people in Madina Town staged a protest demonstration against the police on Saturday, alleging that they had arrested a couple on false charges.
The demonstrators protested in front the offices of regional police officer and the city police officer. They demanded immediate suspension of Madina Town SHO.
The protestors also blocked University Road with a protest sit-in before the City District Government Secretariat.
Zafar Ali, one of the protestors, said, “Madina Town police have implicated Shehzad and his wife Asima Bibi in a false narcotics case. When we went to the police station to complain to the SHO, he was very rude and refused to listen to us.” “Shehzad and Asima Bibi are innocent. They have never been involved in narcotics,” Ali said.
Madina Town SHO said, “The police have received a number of complaints against Shehzad and his spouse. If they are proved innocent in the preliminary investigation, they will be released,” he said.
Eventually, the CPO sent his representative, Muhammad Asghar, who assured the protestors that action would be taken in accordance with law.
