FAISALABAD:

As many as 737 factories, shops and houses in various areas of the city have been declared unfit for use in a report prepared the Punjab Emergency Service (Rescue 1122) after a survey of old buildings in the city.

The Rescue report also stated that several factories and mills were emitting ammonia gas which had caused fire incidents in the area and damaged property.

It also stated that some factories, shops and houses had substandard electric wiring. It said many factories had vast stores of inflammable chemicals.

“A large number of these buildings are situated in narrow streets in the most congested areas of the city where, in case of emergency, the Rescue teams cannot operate.

A rescue official, who was part of the survey team, said that the report had been forwarded to the government.
