Lahore High Court Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial on Monday set up an election control room to coordinate with the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) during the by-polls. He directed the returning officers to ensure free, fair and transparent by-elections.
The control room will be headed by Habibullah Amir and will be assisted by Yousaf Aujla and Bushra Zaman.
The chief justice asked them to adhere to the code of conduct. He said poll rigging, violence and misconduct would not be tolerated.
He directed the district and sessions judges of districts where by-polls are being held to remain impartial.
The chief justice also set up an election control room at the LHC address the problems faced by the district returning officers. He directed senior police officials and DCOs to ensure deployment of law enforcement personnel to provide security to voters in the by-elections.
