Dozens of doctors at Allied Hospital, Faisalabad on Thursday staged a protest demonstration against police for its failure to arrest those responsible for beating up their colleague Dr Khalid Ameen.
The doctors did not attend patients at the Outdoor Patients Department (OPD).
One of the protestors, Dr Khalilur Rehman, told the media that his colleague, Khalid Ameen, had been “severely beaten up” by unidentified men two days ago.
Rehman said that the Pakistan Medical Association, the Medical Teachers’ Association and the Young Doctors Association had decided to stage joint protests at Allied Hospital.
“The strike can go on for an indefinite period if our demands are not met,” he said.
Muhammad Sharif, a patient who was brought to Allied Hospital by his son Muhammad Naeem, said that the government should take action against doctors who refused to attend to patients.
Later, the doctors also took out a rally from the hospital’s main gate to Akbar Chowk.
