BAHAWALPUR:

District and Sessions Judge Muhammad Rasheed Qamar on Friday directed Food Department officials to ensure provision of flour on controlled price to the public.

Ordering them to regularly check supply from flour mills, the judge said it was the officials’ responsibility to ensure that wheat was provided to registered mills only.

The judge was presiding over a meeting of the Criminal Justice Committee.

He said it had been brought into his notice that Food Department was supplying wheat to flour mills that had been out of business.

He directed the district food officer to make a list of mills that had been given the wheat quota. He said the list should be submitted in his court.

He also directed food officers to ensure that there was a consistent price of flour across the district. He said crushing of wheat should be done at flour mills. The district food officer assured the judge that there was ample quantity of flour in the markets. He said flour had also been made available at all model bazaars at controlled prices on the directions of the chief minister. He said cases would be registered against vendors who were found over charging customers.

On controlling crime

The judge also directed the district police to arrest all wanted criminals. He said police should increase patrol and keep a vigilant eye at suspicious-looking people.

The judge was informed that district police had arrested 249 wanted criminals in the last month.

The judge also directed officials to install CCTV cameras on court premises.

On petrol prices and teachers

The judge directed officers concerned to conduct surprise visits at petrol pumps and act against those selling adulterated petrol.

He also directed Education Department officials to avoid unlawful and ineligible transferring and appointments of teachers.
