Sialkot police have arrested a bounty killer, who had been declared a proclaimed offender by a court, District Police Officer Muhammad Gohar Nafees told reporters at a press conference on Friday. He said the government had set Rs0.2 million head money on Fahad Ghumman.
The DPO said that the arrest was made by a team led by Sub Inspector Khalid Waryo. He said several places in and around the district were raided, before the man was arrested from an area bordering on Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The DPO said that Ghumman was wanted for 16 murders.
The victims included Hafiz Muhammad Shoaib at the Government Murray College, Sialkot, in 2004; Mohsin Butt a trader in Hajipura, Sialkot, in 2006; Khalid Mehmood a trader 0in Daska in 2007; Mehar Yasir a shopkeeper in Naikapura, Sialkot, in 2008; Khwaja Lolak Bashir a travel agent on Kutchery Road, Sialkot, in 2010; Amajd alias Billa a milkman in Rangpura, Sialkot, in 2011; and two youths Raheem alias Saeen and Shehbaz in Sialkot Cantonment in February 2013.
He had also killed two brothers of Bashir at his agency.
The district police officer said the police had separately arrested 13 men said to be Ghumman’s accomplices in several cases.
He said 10 his accomplices had reportedly left the country. He said the police were in contact with Interpol for the arrest of these fugitives. He identified seven to them as Shehzad alias Leesha, Chaand Butt, Irfan Butt, Rizwan Butt, Ashfaq alias Cheetah, Maqbool alias Bholla and Ansar Sultan.
The provincial government had announced a head money of Rs0.2 million for each of them.
Investigation SP Asad Sarfraz Khan, DSP Maqsud Ahmed Lone and Sialkot District Peace Committee member Zafar Malik were also present at the press conference.
