A man was killed on Tuesday allegedly by his rivals over a land dispute. Five others were injured. One of the assailants was arrested.
Police said the deceased, Hafiz Muhammad Irshad, had had a dispute over land in Chak 521/DNB near Head Rajkan. They said his rivals, identified as Muhammad Aslam and Muhammad Ajmal in the FIR, had apparently grabbed land that Irshad had said had belonged to him.
On Tuesday, police said, when Irshad and his relatives Muhammad Amjad and Muhammad Sabir visited the land for watering, they found Aslam, Ajmal and 13 other men there. Police said the rival group was armed and started firing at Irshad and his cousin, who shot back. Irshad died on the spot. Sabir, Amjad and three others were injured in the firing.
Some passers-by informed the police.
Head Rajkaan Station House Officer Tasaddaq Abbas Khan and his team visited the scene. The injured were taken to Head Rajkan Hospital, from where Sabir and Amjad were referred to Bahawal Victoria Hospital. Doctors treating them said they were both in critical condition.
A case was registered against Aslam and Ajmal by the family of the deceased.
Police said they had arrested Aslam, who, they said he had been wanted by the police in several cases.
