A sessions court judge on Tuesday awarded death penalty on two counts to a convict and life term on two counts to another for the murder of a couple in Razaabad. According to the prosecution, Ghufran Ali, a resident of Chak 129/15-L in Mian Channu, Khanewal and his accomplice Imtiaz Ahmad killed Maqsood Ahmad and his wife Sughran Bibi over a marriage dispute on October 16.
Additional Sessions Judge Muhammad Shahid Bashir Chaudhry awarded death sentence on two counts to Ali and life imprisonment on two counts to Ahmad. The convicts were also directed to pay Rs200,000 compensation each to the heirs of the deceased.
Also on Tuesday, Joharabad District and Sessions Judge Irfan Ahmed Saeed awarded death sentence on three counts to a man convicted of a triple murder in Khushab. The convict was also ordered to pay a Rs900,000 fine.
According to the prosecution, Hamid Sultan had shot his mother Nusrat Jehan, sister Rehmat Bibi and cousin Naeemuddin on July 3, 2012 over a property dispute. He had been arrested by Saddar police.
Acquitted
A district and sessions court in Faisalabad acquitted a man accused of murder.
Police had registered a case against Waseem Latif of Hajveri Town for allegedly killing a woman after kidnapping her from her house. Police said he was acquitted of the charges due to a lack of evidence against him.
