FAISALABAD:

District Coordination Officer Noorul Amin Mengal on Friday directed the monitoring staff at fruit and vegetable markets in Faisalabad to be more vigilant and control over pricing.

He was visiting the markets at Ghulam Muhammadabad and Saddar-Jhang Road to take notice of mismanagement at the markets.

He directed the staff to arrange separate blocks for each commodity with proper sign boards to help customers. He also directed that encroachments be removed and cleanliness be ensured.

Mengal appointed the assistant commissioner and the Saddar assistant commissioner as focal persons for vegetables and fruits markets in Ghulam Muhammadabad and Saddar-Jhang Road.
He said the roads and drainage systems must be upgraded.
The DCO also informed the police station house officers and traffic wardens to ensure their presence at the markets during auctions.

Reviewing the auction prices of vegetables and fruits, the DCO directed the price control magistrates to allow fair profit for retailers keeping in view the whole sale prices . Mengal also checked several cold storage rooms to review the quality of the edibles.

The DCO also inspected slaughter houses in Lyallpur Town and Jinnah Town and ordered that hygienic conditions must be maintained.

He directed the veterinary officers to examine the health of animals slaughtered.

He suspended Veterinary Doctor Ahsan Munir over poor performance.

Later, the DCO presided over a District Price Control Committee meeting and reviewed the prices of edibles.

He urged the flour and ghee mills associations, sugar linkers, grain markets, poultry associations and mutton and beef merchants to set up stalls at the Sahulat Bazaars organised by the district administration.

He urged the retailers and whole sale dealers to cooperate with the district administration. “Strict action will be taken against profiteers,” he said.

The rates of pulses, rice, ghee, sugar, milk and other edibles were fixed with the consultation of traders, shopkeepers and the consumer representatives at the meeting.
