LAHORE:

Farmers’ Field Day was celebrated at the Hamaliya Fish Farm in Muridke on Monday with fish farmers being trained to use floating feed technology.

The celebration was organised by the World Initiative for Soy in Human Health (WISHH) as part of its Feeding Pakistan Project.

Speaking at the event, country head of the Feeding Pakistan Project RSN Janjua said that soya-based floating feed plans for fisheries had been very successful. He said that Feeding Pakistan had started the harvesting of Tilapia fish. Fish farmers could grow and sell Tilapia in just 6-8 months, while nurturing local fish breeds like Rahu takes 18 months, he said. A farmer could produce 5,000 Tilapia per acre, which was far more than local breeds, he added.
