As many as 11,787 people competed on the fourth day of the Punjab Youth Festival in district-level games on Saturday and 3,967 moved to the next round.
In table tennis contests, Wagha Town beat Samanabad Town 3-0, Ravi Town moved past Corporate Sector with a 3-0 win, Nishtar Town defeated Cantt 3-0.
In the quarter-final stage, Gulberg Town beat Shalimar Town 3-1, Data Ganj Bakhsh Town beat Ravi Town 3-1 and Iqbal Town beat Nishtar Town 3-0.
Abdul Qayyum Khan, president of the Pakistan Table Tennis Federation, was the chief guest at the event.
As many as 2,000 people from Kasur, Sheikhupura and Nankana Sahib participated in the competitions and 458 people won.
As many as 182 people from Chakwal, Attock and Jhelum featured in several events of which 50 won.
As many as 2,166 people from Bhakkar, Khushab and Mianwali participated in various contests and 793 people won.
In Gujranwala, 1,410 people from Hafizabad, Sialkot, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat and Narowal competed and 680 moved to the next round.
As many as 662 players participated in Jhang, Toba Tek Singh and Chiniot districts and 226 returned winners.
In Okara and Pakpattan, 272 people participated in various events and 136 returned successful.
In Multan, 240 players of Vehari, Lodhran and Khanewal districts participated in the PYF activities and 108 moved to the next round.
Bahawalnagar and Rahim Yar Khan districts of Bahawalpur division saw some 388 participants in action and out of which 191 won.
As many as 1,267 people participated from Rajanpur, Layyah and Muzaffargarh and 263 returned successful.
Athletics
District-level athletics competitions entered the final stage on Saturday.
Muhammad Yasir from Wagha Town grabbed the first position in the javelin throw contest followed by Nadeem Akhtar of Aziz Bhatti Town and Rana Waleed. The measurement of Yasir’s throw was 54 metres.
In the 1,500-metres race, Majid Ali from Wagha Town finished first with a timing of 4 minutes, 21.70 seconds.
Mohammad Ali of Cantt and Wajid Ali of Gulberg Town stood second and third respectively.
The title of 200 metres race was clinched by Ali Zaman Tarrar of Gulberg Town, who covered the distance in 22.97 seconds.
Ravi Town’s Arsalan stood second and Salman Hasan of Iqbal Town was third.
In the mat-wrestling contest, Danish Mahmood of Samanabad and Rasid Ali of Shalamar Town grabbed top positions.
