The Forman Christian College Mercy Health Centre, a clinic and counselling centre for health services, opened at the college on Tuesday.
The facility was inaugurated by Ferozsons Laboratories Limited President Osman Khalid Waheed.
A statement released by the FCC said the centre would provide basic health care to ill/injured students. It said the centre would focus on providing preventive health services and health education to students and promote a healthy lifestyle among students on campus.
Waheed said raising awareness about healthy lifestyle and practices was an essential part of ensuring good health. He said the FCC Mercy Health Centre will allow the varsity to serve the community at large and will become a part of the university’s heritage.
The inauguration was attended by FCC Rector James Tebbe and Mercy Health Centre benefactor Suhail M Ahmad, managing director of Ahmad Medix Private Limited and former Formanite.
The rector thanked Dr Ahmad for the medicines and equipment he has contributed for the centre. Dr Tebbe acknowledged Waheed’s contributions towards various FCC initiatives.
He said there was a need for an on-campus helath centre to provide health care to over 6,000 students including the 600 students and faculty living on campus.
He thanked the donors and organisations that had offered assistance in setting up the centre.
