FAISALABAD:

“The University of Agriculture, Faisalabad (UAF), has been ranked 35th among universities by the Universitas Indonesia (UI) GreenMetric World University Ranking,” UAF Vice Chancellor Iqrar Ahmad Khan said on Sunday.

He said the ranking was based on: setting and infrastructure, research on energy and climate change, waste management, water usage, transportation and education.

Khan said the university’s achievement would go down in history. “It has enhanced Pakistan’s prestige and honour,” he said.

“The UAF has already been ranked amongst the top 100 universities… this is the fourth year that the UI has given its ranking on the basis of environment friendliness and management,” he said.

“This year, 301 universities from 61 countries including Morocco, Egypt, Namibia, Cyprus, Slovenia, Estonia, Ukraine, Portugal, Philippines, Iran, Jordan, Panama and Pakistan were included in the ranking, which is an increase from last year with 215 universities from 49 countries,” he added.

Khan said the UAF had awarded 854 PhD, 1,077 M Phil, 23,791 BSc/BS (Honors), 23, 570 MSc, MS (Honors), MBA (Reg), MBA (Exec), MBIT, M.Com, MA, and 150 MS Computer Science diplomas since it was established.

“The university is accommodating 6,186 students (4,921 male and 1,265 female)… it employs 72 professors, 62 associate professors, 204 assistant professors, 28 research officers, three research associates and 222 lecturers.”

Higher Education of Pakistan (HEC) Executive Director Mukhtar Ahmed told The Express Tribune that the UAF was one of the best universities in Asia.

He said the university’s achievement reflected the progress Pakistani universities were making globally.

“Pakistani universities are now making their mark in international rankings… the HEC will continue to invest in research and monitoring the academic performance of higher education institutions across the country,” he said.
