Government College University Lahore students were briefed on the latest technology in the telecom sector at a seminar on Internetwork Development and Engineering Aura.
It was organised by the university’s department of Electrical Engineering on Wednesday.
A statement issued by the university said the aim of the seminar was to share latest technological advancements in wireless communication and networks.
Vice Chancellor Muhammad Khaleequr Rahman, who chaired the seminar, said “The youth should not only equip themselves with the latest technology, but also play a vital role in technological innovations. They must give their technical input for the country’s betterment” he said.
Rahman said GCU had always played a prominent part in organising special events to provide its students a platform to improve their knowledge regarding the latest advancements in technology.
Electric Engineering Head of Department Junaid Zafar said the event was an ideal networking opportunity.
He said the university students could greatly benefit from the experience and expertise of technical professionals from various communication companies.
Raees Khan, an IT expert, briefed the students about the latest networking software, including WireShark. He said that the software was an essential tool in networking analysis. He described how it impacted daily life.
Experts from the telecom sector described the role of internet service providers (ISP) and network virtualisation in professional fields.
Ahsan Malik, a representative of a global information and communication technology provider, Huawei, described the company’s role as an IP data giant in the world. He also talked about 3G and 4G technology, which will be deployed in Pakistan within one or two months.
Warid representatives Kashif Saleem, Leeza Ansari and Rana Zeeshan, told the students about the role of technology in a cellular phone company. They also informed them about technology internship programmes for students.
Babar Kareem from Wateen Telecom shared his professional experience with the students and gave them advice on how to face professional challenges.
