LAHORE:

An additional district and sessions judge fixed May 19 for preliminary arguments on a petition seeking attested documents from May 5, 1930 to September 10, 1930. in the murder case against Bhagat Singh. The petitioner wants to plead Singh’s innocence at the Lahore High Court in SSP Saunder’s murder case.

Imtiaz Rashid Qureshi, chairman of the Bhagat Singh Memorial Foundation, said he needed attested copies of all documents relating to Bhagat Singh, Raj Guru and Sikh Dev to plead their case in the Lahore High Court. He filed a petition asking the court to direct the department concerned to provide the documents.

Earlier, the petitioner was given Bhagat Singh’s FIR on the direction of the additional district and sessions judge. The petitioner had complained that police were reluctant to provide him a copy of the FIR. Qureshi had also filed a writ petition in the Lahore High Court asking for the Bhagat Singh case to be re-opened. He said special judges of a tribunal had awarded death sentences to Bhagat Singh and others in 1930 without hearing 450 witnesses in the case.
