‘Extrajudicial killing’: LHC chief justice seeks report from Rawalpindi judge

LAHORE: 

Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial of the Lahore High Court has taken notice of the killing of two brothers by the police in New Town, Rawapindi, and sought a report from the sessions judge regarding the local police’s investigation of the incident as well as the judge’s comments within a week.

Malik Jamshed and Malik Sajjad were killed on February 14 in what the police say was a shootout.

But Malik Rehmat, the father of the two men, told the press the supposed encounter was actually an extrajudicial murder. He was quoted as saying that his sons were killed for alleged links to banned militant outfits and anti-state activities.

Rehmat asked Supreme Court Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry to take suo motu notice of the incident, and for the formation of a judicial commission led by a High Court judge.
