A two-member team of the US Embassy in Islamabad visited GCUF on Tuesday. It was headed by Information Resource Officer Caryn Anderson.
The delegates met the vice chancellor and the faculty and discussed the establishment of a Lincoln Corner at the university’s library.
After the meeting, the university’s spokesman told The Express Tribune that the corner will consist of books on arts and culture, agriculture, science and technology, literature and biographies. He said there will also be an electronic section containing e-books and videos.
Earlier, VC Zakir Hussain, in his welcome address, said that the university was committed to promoting a book reading culture. He said the Allama Iqbal, the Faiz Ahmad Faiz, the Sultan Bahu and Ghalib corners will be set up at the university’s main library after it was renovated.
He said that GCUF had been ranked sixth best university in Pakistan by the Higher Education Commission (2011).
Two year ago, he said, the university had a deficit of Rs150 million. Now, he added, it had around Rs500 million surplus.
